Facial Rejuvenation Non-surgical
facial rejuvenation refers to procedures or interventions that
do not require actual surgery. Procedures using lasers are
discussed under laser surgery . Chemical peels may also fall
into this category. Specifically, however, this term is usually
used to refer to treatments with topical agents (creams), or
injectable products.
For example, tretinoin (a prescription cream)
may be effective in reducing some signs of skin aging such as
brown sun spots or fine wrinkles.
Reduction in facial lines is also possible using
injectable products such as Collagen or Botulinum toxin.
Collagen is an injectable material that can be placed beneath a
scar or wrinkle line to diminish the visibility of the scar or
wrinkle. It has been available for a number of years for this
purpose.
What types of conditions can be treated by Facial
Rejuvenation
Men and women of all ages may benefit from skin-revitalizing
treatments or resurfacing procedures. Your skin type or
characteristics may make you a better candidate for one method
rather than another. If you have any of these conditions, you
may be a good candidate for a facial rejuvenation procedure:
| • |
wrinkled or sun damaged
skin |
| • |
vertical wrinkles around the mouth that
may cause "lipstick bleed" |
| • |
brown spots or blotches |
| • |
superficial blemishes |
| • |
facial scars caused by chicken pox or
acne |
| • |
uneven pigmentation |
| • |
skin growths |
| • |
enlarged or oily pores |
When to be cautious with Facial Rejuvenation
You should be extra cautious in selecting a skin treatment if
any of the following applies to you:
| • |
you are prone to
abnormal scarring |
| • |
you frequently develop allergic rashes
or other skin reactions |
| • |
you frequently get fever blisters or
cold sores |
| • |
you are pregnant or nursing a baby |
